Team Auto/Mate

Twenty-one and a half Auto/Mate employees ran and walked for a good cause last week in the Capital District Physicians Health Plan (CDPHP) Workforce Challenge. You might be asking, how can there be 21.5 participants? Well, one of our team members is pregnant so we had to count the half!

That’s a record number of participants for Team Auto/Mate, and we love seeing the look on first-timers faces when they see the starting line with 10,000 total racers, ready to go!

It was a beautiful day for the 3.5-mile road race, and we have a story to share of teamwork at its best. One of our members suffered leg cramps, so another team member stayed by her side to encourage her to complete the walk. More team members who finished the race went back to join them for the last mile. Just another example that demonstrates when Auto/Mate employees work together, they can accomplish anything!

The Workforce Challenge race is organized by, and serves as the major fundraiser for, the Hudson-Mohawk Road Runners Club (HMRRC). CDPHP is now in its ninth year as the primary sponsor of this event, which raises money to benefit two local charities that are selected annually as the charities of choice. This was a record year for the event, with over $40,000 raised!

This year’s charities included the Albany Public Library Foundation, which offers youth services programs, free story times, after-school tutoring and STEM enrichment activities to children of all ages. Donations from the 2018 CDPHP Workforce Team Challenge will benefit the “Raising a Reader” program, a free, self-paced, early literacy program that encourages parents to read at least 1,000 books to children ages 5 and younger so that they are well prepared to be successful readers.

The Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York, in partnership with the Patroon Land Foundation, was also selected as a charity of choice this year. The Patroon Land Foundation manages the Patroon Land Farm, where more than 150,000 pounds of fresh, nutritious produce is grown each year and distributed to area food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters and charitable organizations. Donations from the CDPHP Workforce Team Challenge will support the Patroon Land Farm by providing seeds and soil amendments for organic production during the 2018/2019 growing seasons.

Auto/Mate employees have once again displayed their amazing generosity by participating in community events and raising money to benefit local charitable organizations. Thanks, Team Auto/Mate!
